The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe weather outlook warning of increased risk of floods and cyclones this summer.1 Make no mistake – the fossil fuel industry is driving extreme floods, and you know the worst part? They’re getting paid to do it.

Urge Labor to scrap handouts to oil and gas multinationals – 350

The Morrison Government committed $1.9 billion for gas subsidies when in power. This is on top of an existing $19,000 a minute in fossil fuel subsidies. It’s time for the Albanese Government to scrap these handouts in the October Budget.

On Tuesday, I’m delivering a petition to the Treasurer urging him to scrap Morrison’s gas handouts. We’re working with partners in the climate movement to make as much noise as possible. If enough of us sign the petition, we can show the Treasurer that scrapping fossil fuel subsidies is a priority for the community this Budget. Add your voice today.

Our fossil fuel subsidies campaign is having an impact. A journalist asked Resources Minister Madeleine King if the previous government were giving too many fossil fuel subsidies. She responded “Yeah, I think they probably did”.

King’s response reflects a shift in how the Minister has been talking about oil and gas. But without a clear yes or no from Labor, we need to make sure the Treasurer sees how much the community wants to scrap Morrison’s gas handouts. Add your voice to the petition before it’s delivered to the Treasurer on Tuesday.
